It was brought to my attention that the little one in the house couldn’t reach the sink with her current stool. After a few nights and pondering about ones lot in life for being vertically challenged a idea formed in my head to solve her problem and lift her up higher.

The existing stool in the house being made of wood lent itself to me looking at it’s making and how I may fashion a new one. It seemed to be of basic construction of a stand, four legs, and a border piece on the bottom for extra support.
Measuring the existing stools in the house I decided on the dimension of Width 10″ Length 14″ Height 12″.  A quick dirty sketch to record the dimensions and I was off to ponder how to build a stool.

Supplies

• Bundle of stakes for legs
• 4′ X 10″ piece of wood for the top
• Wood screws
• Wood Glue
• Pink, primer, gold , and clear finish spray paint
• Japanese style pull saw
• Dremel router bits
• Non-slip material

Now I hadn’t done any wood working since my high school years so I was completely out of practice when it came to working with wood which showed up.  I used cheap pine wood for the top which dents pretty easy and the legs were made from a bundle of wood stakes that are intending for supporting trees and shrubs or perhaps the occasional vampire.  The poor choice of wood didn’t affect the construction of the stool as it did the finishing of it and lead to poor painting and the legs splintering slightly.  In the future I would have chosen something like poplar to build with.

For the build itself, it was done in a cold garage using a red wagon as my work bench for supporting the wood as I sawed through it by hand.  This goes to show you how little you need to work with your hands.

The painting was a disappointment with the choice of spray cans.  The cheap wood simply soaked up the paint and I couldn’t get enough of a decent coat to be happy with.  A can of paint and a brush would have been tons better.

All in all the little one is happy with her new higher stool and can now wash her hands on her own without having to have one of us help her out.

New pan, much bigger than the old one.

Browning up some meat, started with a one pound of ground beef and some italian sausage.

Added the tomato paste and the spaghetti mix and a whole bunch of other herbs and seasoning.

All mixed, time to start the simmering.

All simmered down and ready for eating, or in this case for bottling up for storage later.  Not so much as a spaghetti sauce as more of a red sauce now.
